The Security Regulation Alliance was formed in October 2010 in direct response to the government’s announcement that the Security Industry Authority (SIA) would be abolished under the Public Bodies Bill.
The Alliance represents the vast majority of the private security industry through its membership bodies and other key stakeholders, ensuring broad and effective industry involvement in planning the future of industry regulation and licensing.
The Security Regulation Alliance is led by a four member-strong Governance Board, supported by a management team, and is chaired by BSIA Chief Executive, James Kelly.
Letter to the Home Secretary
Concerned about the lack of forethought to the Government’s announcement, and the lack of consultation with industry, the BSIA’s James Kelly wrote a letter to Home Secretary, Theresa May, appealing for the Home Office to engage with the security industry over any planned changes to regulation, citing issues such as industry maturity, public confidence, and lighter-touch regulation as key considerations when planning the way forward.
Principles
In January 2011, the Security Regulation Alliance outlined a set of overeaching
principles that its members collectively agree will need to be central to any new regulatory process.
